Dust514 Uprising 1.7 Bombardment Changes (And my rage)

For fuck's sake...

Tuesday, December 10, marks the launching of Uprising 1.7 for Dust514. With it comes tweeks to vehicles, a couple new rifles, entirely redesigned Factional Warfare match mechanics, bah blah blah... and new rules for EVE-side bombardments! While the rest of the crap if readily available on the last Dust and EVE devblogs on the subject, a piece is missing from the "surface." That being the limitations imposed on Faction Warfare EVE-side bombardments. And I'm fucking pissed.

New Bomardment Mechanics

The gist of the new mechanics are awesome, of course. Instead of having to park our happy asses at a beacon in space, waiting for a bombardment request from the infantry on the ground (which may never come if the team can't get enough WP's because they suck), the fleet now "earns" bombardments for their respective side by staying connected to a district, uncontested, for 3 minutes. We still have to wait for the guys on the ground to call the bastard in, but that's where the new voice channel comes in handy! When connected to the district, the pilots in space are added to the team voice of the match on the ground automatically. We can now know exactly when an OB will be called in.

If a hostile (I assume only a pilot affiliated with the other "team," not a random neutral) lands within 10km of the beacon, the progress towards earning the bombardment will be paused until the threat is removed or you get whelped and lose control. Awesome, more PVP for the PVP'ers! This will curb fly-by bombardments where a pilot from a less-than-good Alliance will fly to the district and drop rounds as quickly as possible and fuck off, regardless of the presence of hostiles on the beacon. We are MORE than familiar with this style of bombardment through our last deployment to Molden Heath.


NOW - the rage part! To bombard for PC you have to be in the Alliance of the District owner or attacker, which is well and good... for the most part. However, for Faction Warfare, ONLY militia members can bombard into the match. If I, being the bad ass bombardier that I am, wish to fly into Old Man Star, braving the Soul Taker gate camp and sit in orbit of a district for 3 minutes, completely exposed, I will not be allowed to bombard for my guys on the ground. This is absolutely bullshit, for several reasons:

  1. Dust players can jump from faction to faction, willy-nilly and fight for whomever they want at any time. EVE Alliances/Corporations do not have this luxury. This means the mercenary aspect of the Dust guys will be hindered if they wish to swap sides to someone that has a more lucrative offer for them and want their Alliance/Corporation to help from orbit.
  2. If Dust members of a corp are perfectly fine fighting for a single Faction, there is no long-lasting penalty for them. They could still jump to a different faction and fight, for reduced LP, of course. On the EVE-side, the Alliance/Corporation that joined a Faction JUST to help their Dust guys on the ground are restricted from 1/2 of empire, and will be taking standings penalties to the opposing faction if they engage in all the activities of the war. These penalties have far greater consequences, including permanent exclusion from 1/2 of empire space if standings drop too far.
  3. Due to the two factors above, EVE players must make a much greater sacrifice to engage in the "pinnacle" of cross-game activities, being orbital strikes. Since it is EVE player base that is larger, older (game-age, not RL age), and more negative towards its counterpart, CCP should not be restricting interaction between the games by imposing limitations of this type.
During the voice discussion that occurred between EVE/Dust players and CCP Nullarbor, I presented my displeasure towards this mechanic. I've also been quite vocal on the Dust and EVE forums about it. The ONLY valid response I've heard from the Dev/CSM/CPM team is:

"We want pilots connected to the districts, supporting an opposing team, to be viable targets to Faction Warfare participants."

That's all well-and-good, I get it, but the solution is SIMPLE:

  • If I connect to a district in Faction Warfare space as a non-FW member, flag me as suspect!

Crimewatch 2.0 had such a great rework to the aggression mechanics, USE THEM. Flagging a pilot suspect not only allows the opposing Faction to attack them without sec loss, but also the same faction can kill me for trying to deny them LP. I'm not saying that I should earn LP from bombarding, either. I don't care about that stuff. I'm there for my boys, not for payouts. Just let me drop the fucking rounds, FOR FUCK'S SAKE.

Not to mention, if this was expanded to allow any person to connect to the districts, pick a side, this could allow brand-new EVE players the ability to see the growing connection between Dust and EVE. It might actually motivate them to get a used PS3 (when all the PS4 players return them to Gamestop) and try it out. Or even drive new players into Faction Warfare to earn LP from the bombardments. SO MUCH WASTED POTENTIAL AND CAPS RAGE.

FOR FUCK'S SAKE. Seriously, this time. FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!


How are the two gaming communities supposed to get closer together, when an entity like my Alliance, which have been a hybrid Dust/EVE Alliance since Dust's Beta, can't even support my guys wherever they go? My quote from the EVE: Second Decade Edition still hold true.

Operation #takingbackseyllin - SUCCESS

For fuck's sake...

Tso's has moved back home, FULL FORCE.

Achievement Unlocked: Most consecutive kills for Tso's w/out a failcascade.
We began Operation #takingbackseyllin November 26th, assuming the POCO's were set to the same exact off-time (~1700 EVE Time) that they were when we redeployed to Molden Heath back in late September. Our intention was to reinforce the structures Tuesday night, so they'd come out in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner on that following Thursday, forcing the American Basgerins to choose between family or internet spaceships. We, thankfully, have no lives here in General Tso's and were totally going to be there to finish them off. (edit: we totally weren't, lol).

You can imagine our surprise when we were hitting 3 POCO's simultaneously per siege cycle and each one was scheduled to come out in exactly 24 hours! What was this sorcery??

As a result, I sent out another CTA (because we are all super-serial and crap now) and told everyone we were in for a good 6 hours of sieging, weeks before we were actually going to remove the structures.

On Christmas, of course.
The following night, we shipped into mostly ABC's, with some assholes being prepared for some hardcore PVE, from the looks of it, and began our siege. We took each POCO as quickly as they dropped out of reinforced, and half-way through the epic grindfest, Shadow Cartel said hello, in a way only they (and by "only they" I mean rich people with Titans) can! <3 SC!

Holy shit, we killed the cynos, YES! ...and lost a billion ISK. Op success.
Oh, those bastards are stealing our Venture thunder, too. Using Titans and everything...

But anyway, the only Basgerin to actually show up and do something, besides Mrchris in his looting Helios, was DR BiCarbonate. He played it smart, picking off stragglers during the sieges, and was even at the warp-in when my alt landed to upgrade a new POCO. I managed to upgrade the structure while dying, but well played, Dr, well played. Thankfully Colt showed up in a Rapier out of nowhere to web down the 100MN AB madness that Basgerins are so fond of, and we killed the Loki.

After that, he politely congratulated us and moved on his merry way. With PO3tank gone from Basgerins, I'd have to say one of the only one of the group I still have respect for is the good DR. The rest of BPOG were uncharacteristically silent all three nights, I'm assuming its because there's nothing to shit talk about when you are getting your ass stomped, and children only know how to speak on the internet in smack.

We knocked down all but one structure that night, finishing the last one off on Thanksgiving itself. We maxed out fleet around 40 the first night and even had an incredible 25 or so show for the last structure. All-in-all I'm extremely proud of Tso's and can't wait to see where we head next.

All that being said, my epic plan of blue-balling the Basgerins by deploying to MH in support of our Dust guys, followed by scheduled roams to bolster activity, and THEN finally moving home when Basgerin's activity was at an all-time low came to fruition. I rule. Having GIANT and friends to join our ranks after months of prodding was icing on the cake, of course, more on that stuff in a Dust blog.

P.S. It is worth noting that we accomplished in 3 days what took Bagserins 6 weeks.

CCP Seagull's Vision - My Hopes

For fuck's sake...

CCP Seagull has been describing a grand vision she has for EVE's future, ever since last fan fest. In a recent article, CCP Pokethulu (David Reid, the marketing guy) gave a larger peak into some of the pieces of that vision.

He explains that the Ghost Sites introduced in Rubicon, the newest expansion of EVE, are the first steps towards capsuleers moving into new space through the use of player-constructed star gates. There are hints that the player-made implants that can be constructed from components found in these Ghost sites will be required to use the player-made gates to get to this new region of space. Whether that means we'll all need to be stocking up on Ascendancy implants, or if new ones are in the pipe is yet to be determined.

Now, since there are still a lot of questions to be answered about this player-made gate tech and even where it will be take us and what space will be like once we get there, I figure its time for me to outline my "grand vision" of this space.

What is it?

A new galaxy, similar to Anoikis (w-space), with no connections between systems and maybe some fun space phenomenon like w-space systems. It will have familiar star systems, with planets, moons, anomalies, belts, etc, but it could be fun to see binary or trinary systems, or even rogue planets with no star at all. Maybe super-massive gas giants with mine-able rings just drifting in the dead space between solar systems could be found.

How will we get there?

At first, wormholes should be the only means of getting there. And more specifically, only wormholes from Anoikis. The systems themselves should not have wormhole access between each other, nor should they have wormholes directly back to New Eden. Anoikis should be the junction through which all travel between the new galaxy's systems must be done. This boosts w-space and ensures their deep involvement in this expansion of space, instead of sidelining them.

What will the space be like?

As much customization as possible should be permitted in a system. Sov should be gained, with all the current sov bonuses. Claiming/losing it should be different than the current Dominion system, which rewards large numbers blobbing strong structures and should be based off of activity in the systems.

Through sov, new system upgrades can be installed that have been begged for on the forums for years: Enable/Disable local chat, disable cloaking devices, and maybe throw in some defensive/offensive bonuses for the sov-holder. Also, through sovereignty, an Alliance should be able to finally construct gates back to New Eden. These gates must be a massive undertaking, but should be allowed to be constructed from lowsec to nullsec. In addition, the gates should be permitted to bridge the new galaxy's systems together. An interesting mechanic would be to make these gates standing-dependent or use a fuel source per jump.

Cynos should be permitted in the new galaxy, but the distance between it and New Eden should restrict capitals from jumping from one to the other. This would mean that new capitals (and super capitals) that are constructed in the new galaxy are "stuck" there. That way, existing null blocks can not easily plow into the new space and expand their already massive empires.

What about lore/NPCs?

I would love for this galaxy to be the Milky Way and the NPCs to be Terrans, or what has become of them over the last 30 or so thousand years. They should be extremely hostile, and killing them should be very difficult. They should attack randomly, including structures in space, and their drops/salvage should be keys to new weapons and new player-made structures (gates, modular POS's, new sov crap to shut off local, monuments, etc).


My desire is that this new galaxy be a form of reboot for nullsec, along with mechanics in place to aid "the little guy" while dissuading large blocks from holding the entire space, or the most valuable space. New supers should be allowed to be constructed, but have to remain in the new galaxy. It could be possible that large clusters of supers attract pissed off Terrans that begin to spawn exponentially if things get too out of hand. Huge swaths of space should be attacked regularly by the NPC's for a huge entity to realistically hold. Again, exponentially increasing assaults if an empire is grabbing up too much space. Include with this new restrictions on cynos (mass limits) to avoid totalhelldeath being jumped into a singular system all at once with only a single guy lighting it, and it makes this new space much more interesting for the small groups to move to.

There WILL be Blood!

     This expansion will be different, not because of the tools that are being introduced, but what we can do with these tools once they are seeded. Ghost Sites will be the portal to where the goodies are!  Implants, BPC's, meta items, and materials will be some of the loot found at these sites. I will start with the depots, there will be 3 types of Mobile Depots.   Not a huge difference between the three, its a can, that floats in space + fitting service (30 days gone forever)!

Dark Drifter brought me to the system where they seeded the new Ghost Sites!!! He wrote plenty about it on the forums! I would direct you there, not to steal his thunder.  He was the first!  But I have Pictures! Hazzzah!

I want this post to be very raw and lazy not editing all of the pictures and tryng to waste your day!

Once you HACK the can and play through the game, you have to scoop the cargo/ goodies!

Fail at a Hack and you will take damage when the can blows up! No second chances! 
Have your skills on point or die :-D.  This and the Watchman (Rats that spawn) Will scam and web you!  You can tank their fury in a tanked cruiser or higher....

Got ONE!!!! Like a boss!!! It only took me about 5+ Sites before I got this drop.

I was prediction about Carbon and Hydrogen Batteries being in the recipe for these implants was completely wrong.  PI is needed who knew.....

Venture Roam, Best Roam

For fuck's sake...

Despite relatively few of my Alliance mates showing up, the Venture roam on Wednesday was a resounding success!

Behold, the fucking glory.

And this time I'm not being sarcastic. We all fit Ventures however we wanted, I went with this:

Dem rails. Requires all 4 Genolution implants, btw.. or some 5% hardwirings.

We wandered back and forth between Ladistier and Fliet in our 5-man Venture gang looking for targets. Somehow James died on the OMS gate to our frienemies, Soul Takers. He didn't return, sadly.

We continued on our quest, toying with a destroyer, faction and assault frigate gang in Fliet for a bit, before pulling back to Ladistier. A couple cocksuckers kept warping around and cloaking in a Punisher and Kestrel, because that's what 1337 FW PVP'ers do, after all. They joined for PVP and stayed for the button orbits, so pro.

Anyway, we caught sight of a Pixi guy and chased him a couple jumps into Abune, where my glorious Venture grabbed his black ass on a gate. We killed him after a couple losses and me personally having to warp out 3 times. For whatever reason, my fleet mates could not grasp the idea that they have +2 to warp strength on their fucking Ventures.

How fucking hard is that to understand? 100% to mining and gas harvester yield, assholes!!!!
Also, Arunis had to be the special kid in a non-Venture, so when he was scrammed/webbed he was fucked.

But anyway, not warping even though you can is better than 1/2 the Corp that showed up last night (Thursday) for the roam... that happened 24 hours prior. After letting people know that we would be using the calendar back when we announced scheduled ops, it appears people STILL don't understand the whole GMT thing... despite playing the game for several years.

Kaphine's Vegas Adventure

Good Day All,
This is my adventure in Las Vegas, to attend Eve Vegas 2013!
I just meet CCP Praetorian in the lobby of the RIO! It is only 3:15 and I have already met half a dozen players!

Played roulette with Mark726 was winning, and then we saw CCP Guard and CCP Arrow took the picture! Me and CCP Arrow will have words and he will tell me how bad my ideas are! Thanks, Salid for giving me the confidence I need!

Then there was Doom Chinchilla, I thanked him for the Shadow Cartel drop the other day, he was in his signature Rorqual, to scoop the dead SCUM. Dread! This is for you!

Everyone and I mean everyone started showing up to the pub crawl and was getting so drunk I could not remember everyone that I met! The big ones that stuck out in my mind are Chribba, The Mittani, and CCP Fozzie! Then I jumped of the Stratosphere. Zapa is the Man!

Then the even coordinators had four people volunteer to jump off! I was one of the four! That was my first night at an EVE event! WOW!

The next morning was check-in and onward to the festivities!

Got my Tempest and Codes and first drop of loot!

Then onward to Breakfast with WAFFLES eating WAFFLES!

Now it is time for Jared to lose his Sh!t,I meet Chribba in the flesh! Chribba 

Now onward to the main event!

There were multiple talks, about the future of EVE, to include Dust 514 and EVr Valkyrie.  There was the subject of UI (User Interface) being on the table for discussion. Below are pictures of prototype or concept ideas.

These pictures don't do what I saw justice but a cleaner, better UI is at the forefront of making this beautiful game, "flow", just as beautifully.

My first time playing DUST 514. CCP Set up a 8 v 8.

When I got home this was my total drop, also because my Collector's Edition arrived!!!!
